The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable with a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, often in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
